HOWTO: Export or Backup content from WordPress.com?

UPDATE:

this rant has been deprecated by the “XML Import / Export

WordPress.com FAQ on: Is everything being backed up?

«…In the future you’ll also be able to download a personal XML backup of your data, but we don’t have a timeline on that quite yet.»

so far there is no any possibility to export all posts (not just recent ones), not speaking about of exporting comments to them. I am still wondering whether that light future ever shall become? cause if it wont — WordPress.com can’t be considered as a serious blogging service: no backups, no chance to transfer content to self hosted blog in the future.

EDIT:

currently you can export text of all articles as an RSS feed. images and other attachments uploaded to WP.com and linked to articles should be downloaded manually. still, I do not know how to export: static Pages, Category and Links structures; import: comments.
